SENIOR CONSULTANT | SUSTAINABILITY
Position: Senior Consultant, Sustainability
What we are looking for
We are looking for a Senior Consultant who brings sharp political instincts, strong strategic judgement, and a deep understanding of the EU sustainability, competitiveness, and energy agenda. You will be someone who thrives in a fast-moving environment, quickly grasps complex issues, and translates them into clear, actionable advice for clients.
As a Senior Consultant at Fourtold, you will play a pivotal role in driving forward client programmes, anticipating policy developments, connecting insights across files and topics, and ensuring that our work has real impact. You will bring the confidence and maturity to manage relationships with clients (corporates, NGOs, trade associations) and stakeholders, oversee the delivery of high-quality work, and help steer multi-layered projects with clarity and purpose.
We are looking for someone who is both strategic and hands-on: a senior consultant who can see the bigger picture while managing the detail, who contributes ideas as well as structure, and who supports and elevates the team around them. You should be motivated by collaboration, curiosity, and continuous learning, keen to deepen your expertise and network.
Experience and knowledge:
- At least 5 years of relevant experience working in one or more of the following: EU or international institutions; a public affairs consultancy; an in-house public affairs role in a company; a trade association; or an NGO.
- Understanding of the workings of the EU institutions and legislative processes, in one or more policy areas related to sustainability (e.g., climate, chemical, energy, environment, mobility, or agri-food policies).
- Expertise in policy monitoring, project management, communications, traditional media relations, and/or social media campaigns would be an asset.
Key areas of responsibility
- Client Service: Act as a trusted day-to-day contact for clients, maintaining strong peer-level relationships and ensuring they receive timely, relevant guidance on EU sustainability policy developments.
- Project Management: Serve as the central coordination point for clients and internal teams, ensuring smooth, on-time delivery of complex workstreams across fast-moving EU policy files.
- Team Management: Model Fourtold’s client-service standards and actively coach junior colleagues to help them deliver high-quality work.
- Commercial Acumen: Manage activity and team time within agreed budgets, ensuring delivery aligns with project scope and client expectations.
- Business growth: Build networks and identify opportunities to expand existing mandates or offer new services, contributing to the development of proposals and pitch materials.
- Learning and Development: Proactively invest in expanding expertise on EU sustainability, energy, and industrials policy and advocacy, seeking opportunities to deepen skills and apply new knowledge to client work.
- Culture: Contribute positively to Fourtold’s culture and take responsibility for ongoing professional development, sharing new skills and insights with colleagues.
