Fourtold appoints Tatu Liimatainen as Director of EU Public Affairs, to develop its Institutions offer
Will give in-depth EU institutional insight and knowledge to help clients navigate an increasingly complex policy landscape, especially around environmental and sustainability issues
Tatu Liimatainen has joined integrated strategic communications and public affairs consultancy Fourtold, as Director of EU Public Affairs, within its fast-growing EU advocacy comms business in Brussels.
Tatu, a Finnish national, bolsters Fourtold’s public affairs capabilities, bringing years of high-level insights and experience from his time as former cabinet member of VP Katainen within the European Commission; as assistant to former EP VP Olli Rehn within the European Parliament; and most recently, with the Finnish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry where he led on climate-related issues.
By bringing his unique experience of having worked in each of the three main EU institutions, Tatu will help with the continued growth of Fourtold’s Public Affairs offer which is being expanded to include institutional outreach and engagement. As the focus turns to companies to act on the climate crisis – his in-depth knowledge will support clients in navigating the environmental and climate regulatory environment.
His appointment builds on Fourtold’s growing science, health and technology client base, and reputation for integrated advocacy and communications work with global organisations – including Vodafone, PepsiCo, Healthy Europe, CropLife Europe (formerly ECPA) and Brewers of Europe – and further expands Fourtold’s team in the UK, Belgium, Germany, and the US.
Managing Partner of Fourtold, Debbie Parriss, comments: “We have wanted to boost our Public Affairs advisory offer for some time and Tatu’s arrival will ensure that clients have the best possible representation at the highest levels of policymaking – while integrating it with our existing strengths in corporate reputation, digital and creative. We are now able to offer truly integrated (360 degree) solutions to those clients who have a legitimate story to tell on any aspect of climate change and sustainability.”
Managing Director of Fourtold Brussels, Omar Mockbil adds: “Companies and organisations must navigate complex regulatory frameworks and find creative ways to cut through the noise – particularly around sustainability – if they hope to achieve meaningful dialogue with politicians and advance their individual interests.
Having sat at the other side of the table, Tatu’s experience and insight on what effective political engagement looks like, significantly enhances our ability to add strategic and valuable insights to our clients.”
Tatu adds: “With years of experience in advocacy and lobbying for member organisations, and of working within the EU political machine, I’m looking forward to helping Fourtold’s clients by increasing their influence and impact with policy-makers and political stakeholders. Fourtold is growing in reputation in some of the most challenging and complex sectors, both in Europe and internationally, and I am excited to be part of the next phase of its evolution.”
Marina Sarkisian also joins Fourtold as a consultant to help strengthen the team across public affairs and communications. She moves from Politico where she helped grow readership in the European markets, partnering with companies from the tech, agriculture & food, financial services, and healthcare sectors.
Marina started her career at the UNESCO Bioethics department before working with London-based start-ups in the area of tech innovation. She holds an MA in International Relations and Public Policy from the VUB in Brussels.
