BBC News Politics Chief Katy Searle Joins Communications and Public Affairs Consultancy Fourtold as Partner

September 4th, 2023: Fourtold, a leading communications and public affairs consultancy, has appointed former BBC News Senior Controller and Executive Editor of BBC Politics, Katy Searle as a Partner in its London office. Katy will advise the consultancy’s clients on reputation management, communications strategy and political engagement. She will also work on developing Fourtold’s growing UK public affairs practice.

Katy brings a wealth of experience to Fourtold, having worked across a range of senior roles in news and politics at the BBC for more than 30 years. Most recently, Katy worked as a member of the BBC’s news board, where she managed all BBC News and Current affairs programming, overseeing among others, the BBC News at Six and Ten, Radio 4’s Today, Panorama, Newsnight, 5 Live News, Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, and Radio 1 Newsbeat, as well as commissioning digital products for the BBC’s iPlayer and BBC Sounds.

Prior to her role as Senior Controller, Katy was Executive Editor of BBC Politics during three General Elections, the Brexit referendum and the Covid crisis. As well as managing all news coverage, she was responsible for relationships with the political parties, with regular meetings with Number 10 Downing Street, meeting with Prime Ministers and Cabinet ministers, as well as Opposition leaders across the political spectrum. Katy oversaw the BBC’s political shows, such as the Andrew Marr programme and negotiated and managed the key General Election Debates. She has also given evidence to Parliamentary Select Committees, travelled with Prime Ministers to key international summits, and advised on election coverage across the world.
